Roberto Contreras passed away June 25, 2015. He was born January 28, 1933 in San Benito, Texas and graduated from San Benito High School in 1951. He began a career with Central Power and Light Company in 1951. He enlisted in the U. S. Navy in 1953 during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged in 1955 as a Sonarman Seaman. Roberto returned to work at Central Power and Light working in Harlingen, Laredo, Uvalde, Del Rio, moving to Corpus Christi in 1982, where he retired in 1994 as a Safety Representative. He was a Parishioner of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church and was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus.
Roberto was preceded in death by his father, Jesus Contreras; mother, Clotilde “Cota” Almageur Contreras; brother, Ricardo “Rico” Contreras and two sisters, Dora Gonzalez and Mary Lou Meave. Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years, Minerva Contreras; two sons, Robert Anthony Contreras Sr. and Richard Lee Contreras; two daughters, Laura Ann Gonzales and Jeanette Brodeur; two brothers, Reynaldo (Mary Lou) Contreras and Ruben (Terry) Contreras; six sisters, Arminda (Robert) Ysaguirre, Christina (Juan) Garcia, Carmen Solis, Gloria (Frank) Cierpisz, Minerva (Charlie) Baker, and Alicia (Ignacio) Magana; six grandchildren, Robert Anthony Contreras Jr., Nicole Marie Contreras, Anastacio Gonzales, Joey Gonzales, Kaila Ashton Brodeur and Austin Joseph Brodeur; one great grandson, Aaron Michael Contreras and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., Sunday, June 28, 2015 with a Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. at Memory Gardens Funeral Home. Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Monday, June 29, 2015 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 5830 Williams Drive, Corpus Christi, Texas. Interment to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
