On April 25th, 2022, Ricardo Lagarde Castillo (Richard) passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family and friends. Richard was born August 16th, 1940, to Alejandro and Juanita Castillo who he now reunites with in heaven along with his grandfather, Aurelio Lagarde Castillo. Richard also joins his late sister, Angelina Martinez (Angie/Kina) and his late brother, Alejandro Castillo.
Richard spent most of his time in the workforce at various locations as a convenient store clerk and was produce manager for an extensive amount of time at a local HEB. In his free time and after retirement Richard spent most of his time with his family. Richard leaves behind his brother, Gilbert Castillo; his son, Richard Castillo Jr and his wife, Lucy Castillo; his daughters, Angie Yvette Castillo, Yvette Ann Castillo and her husband, Esteban S Garza III; his grandchildren, Pete Castillo, Carlos Castillo, Estrella Maria Garza, Sarah Rose Castillo, Esteban C Garza IV, Carlos Lagarde Garza, and his 3 unborn great-granddaughters.
If you asked Richard what his greatest accomplishment was and while he has a long list of things to choose from like his boat, his home, his infamous blue van, or even his golf club collection, he would say it was his family. Richard lived through his family so proud of everything they accomplished like it was his own. He supported his family by being an open ear, a shoulder to cry on, a safe place, and a book of life advice. While Richards home was open to anyone once you walked through those doors you are subjecting yourself to at least 3 “back in my day” speeches. According to his grandchildren back in his day Richard was everything from a professional boxer to champion bowler. While it’s hard to determine what stories were true and what stories had the Castillo stretch there was one thing everyone knew for sure and that was Richard’s love for God. In his last few months Richards faith only grew stronger with every obstacle he faced. When it was time for Richard to be admitted to hospice he was asked if he was scared for what would come next. Without hesitation and a firm head shake he denied any feeling of fear knowing what lied in store for him.
Richard is now looking down on us, fishing, laughing and it’s safe to assume that he’s even swapping stories with other angels right now. Many would say Richard’s life was cut short and that he was gone so unexpectedly and while they would be right, we all know that in Richard’s 81 years of life he lived every day to its fullest. So next time to cast a line, see the sun set or rise, or even have a beer just know Richard is right there enjoying that moment with you.
Richard and his family would like to show gratitude and appreciation to the following agencies and doctors who managed his care and comforted him during his last days here on Earth: Dr. Chijioke Ogbu, MD; Faith Ebangha Mabo, NPRN, CNP; Fresenius Kidney Care, and the clinicians and staff of Serenity and Grace Hospice Care, LLC along with the owners John and Nicole Flores.
Visitation will be held at Funeraria Del Angel-Memorial Holly on Friday, May 6, 2022 at 8:30 am and Funeral Service in the chapel at 11:30 am. Interment will follow at Duncan Cemetery in Flour Bluff.
