Renee was born in Graham, Texas, on April 2, 1940, to Ray and Wilma "Allene" Bullock. She married Calvin Leroy Self on January 21, 1956.
Renee was a loving wife, sister, mother, grandmother, and friend. Renee and Calvin started Industrial Electric Co., Inc., in 1970. They started out small and grew Industrial Electric into a thriving business that lasted for 37 years. Even with all the responsibilities of starting a new business (being the bookkeeper, ordering job materials, helping on estimates), Renee enjoyed gardening, sewing, painting, playing the piano, reading, and cooking. She loved gardening and cooked with fresh vegetables that she would walk outside and pick from the garden. She will be remembered by many for her legendary dinners of fried shrimp, fresh fried trout, and fried backstrap. There wasn't much she couldn't cook from scratch! In earlier years, she coached her daughter's kickball team, served as team mom to her sons' baseball teams, and was Den Mother in Scouts. In addition, Renee was very active in the Flour Bluff School District and numerous civic organizations. She organized the first PTA for Flour Bluff Junior High School and acted as President, where she actively worked with school board members and attended meetings regularly. Renee also served on the original steering committee to make the dredging of Packery Channel a reality. Renee was also very active in the continued fruition of her church, Caribbean Baptist, and loved all her Brothers and Sisters in Christ. Renee never met a stranger and loved all with an open heart.
Renee was the most genuinely sweet, good-hearted, kind Christian person you would have ever met. She was beautiful, smart, funny and good-natured. If there was anything she did not know how to do, she would get a book and read how to do it. Her limits were boundless because she knew she could do it. "I can all things through Christ who Strengthens me." Phil. 4:13
