Raymond Scott, Sr. passed away Friday, June 5, 2015. Born November 23, 1921 in Bartlett, Texas, Raymond was the second of six sons of Edward and Edna Scott. Raymond moved to the Coastal Bend when he was 17. After returning from serving in the Army in 1946, he married Leola Robinson in Corpus Christi. They started what became a large, loving family of eight children. Always a lover of God and a spiritual man, he found “the truth” and dedicated his life to Jehovah God on March 1, 1969. He loved learning about the Bible and sharing that truth with all. He immersed himself in learning how to better communicate and continued his education with theocratic schools. Always the man of the house and provider of the family, “Scotty” was well-known for his strong work ethic. For 28 years he worked at the Naval Base and then in 1969 he started his own business, Scott Janitorial Service. “A good name is better than good oil” says the Bible and that is certainly true of Raymond Scott, Sr. After surviving the death of Leola Scott, he married Loma Blackston in 1980. Together they produced a number of spiritual children through their shared love of the ministry of the good news of God’s kingdom. He survived Loma’s death in 2008. Brother Scott served as a beloved elder in the Christian Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses for many years. Spiritually assisting those within the congregation was of extreme importance but engaging in the ministry was always his first love. Truly a multi-faceted man, Raymond enjoyed a well-styled hat, music, dancing, western shows, bar-b-cueing, watching professional baseball, life (not necessarily in that order!) Raymond, Sr. was preceded in death by his son Tyrone Scott. He is survived by his children: Irene Abiro, Charlotte & Dell Hosey, Raymond Jr. & Linda Scott, Deborah Scott (widow of Tyrone), Norris & Delia Scott, Pamela Scott, Marjorie & Detroit Woolbright, Jr., Eric Scott, Sandra Barrientes (spiritual daughter); 20 grandchildren (including mates), 21 great and great-great grandchildren, other relatives, a host of additional spiritual children and friends. A memorial service will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses located at 5436 Richter St., Corpus Christi, Texas on Friday, June 12, 2015 at 12 noon.
