Phyllis J. Scott

Phyllis Mary Jean Newcom Scott entered into eternal rest on Saturday, April 24th, 2021, at the age of 83. She was born on November 28, 1937 in Lake City, Arkansas to her parents Lonnie Newcom and Ida Morrison Newcom.

Left to cherish her loving memory are her husband of 65 years Bobby Scott, her sister; Vanita Morgan, step sister; Shirley Mooneyham, their children; Ramona Lea, Joel Bradford and Eric Brent, grandchildren; Narcisa Lea Dempsey, Travis Juston Scott, Jaclyn Taylor Scott and Jenifer Clair Scott and three great grandchildren.

Phyllis was an active member of First Baptist Church in Corpus Christi where she served many roles. She worked in the church school as a teacher’s aide and bus driver. In the flower ministry, she arranged and delivered flowers to members who were in the hospital or sick at home. She was also involved in establishing the food pantry which originally served 8-12 families per week and grew to serve more than 100 families per week. Phyllis also served alongside her husband as Sunday School Co-Director of the Agape Class.

Phyllis loved her family. Her greatest joy was being able to care for her husband and grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church located at 3115 Ocean Drive in Corpus Christi, TX on Thursday, April 29th, 2021, at 10:00am.
