Monica Mungia-Martinez, 50, passed away at her home on Monday evening, May 1st, 2017. Born in Corpus Christi on March 30th, 1967, Monica spent her entire life in the city where she met and married her husband, Raymond Martinez. Upon receiving her diploma from Richard King High School she showed an affinity for Women’s fashion and hairstyling.
She earned a degree from Del Mar College in Cosmetology and was licensed by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. The two joys of her life were her daughters, Priscilla (Mario) Hernandez and Rebecca Martinez. The daughter of Domingo and Annie Mungia, Monica was the second youngest of six children. Although born into a large family, it was Monica’s infectious spirit and lighthearted demeanor that made her truly unique from her five other siblings.
Her laugh could instantly be distinguished in the crowd as it cut through the room of any family get together and she remained a true freethinker up to the moment of her untimely passing. It was her love for traveling that reflected her adventurous nature, and it was her youthful disposition that explained her love for such things as: Green M&M’s, a lavish collection of board games, a deep admiration for music – which she shared with her father – and a wide variety of movies and movie genres.
Monica is survived by her husband of 32 years, Raymond Martinez; two daughters, Priscilla (Mario) Hernandez and Rebecca Martinez; parents, Domingo and Annie Mungia; five siblings, Minerva (Juan) Salazar, Mike Mungia, Manuel (Maurine) Mungia, Mario (Eleanor) Mungia and Marisa (Joey) Moreno; 16 nieces and nephews; her in-laws, Raymond Martinez, Sr. and Lorenza Martinez.
Services are scheduled for May 6th, 2017 with a viewing for family and friends starting at 10 a.m. and ending at 1 p.m. at the Memory Gardens Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin in the Memory Gardens Chapel at 1:30 p.m. followed by the burial at 3:00 p.m.
