Michael David Shumway

Michael David Shumway, 65, of Corpus Christi, TX peacefully departed from his earthly home to his heavenly kingdom on Saturday, January 25, 2014, after his daily jog and spending time with his favorite partner-in-crime, grandson Gavin Buendia.

Michael was born on February 18, 1948 in Dallas, TX. He attended W.W. Samuell High School in Dallas, where he played football and graduated in 1966. He attended college at the University of North Texas in Denton, TX. He married Idolina Garcia in 1969 and became a father to Tiffany Kay in 1977. In 1997, he married Gricel Silva and he became father to Michelle Loeb and Oliver Buendia. He called Dallas, Houston, San Benito, and Corpus Christi home. He was a proud father and grandfather, passionate about his work as a financial planner, and a devoted husband.

Michael was a Top of the Table Member of the Million Dollar Roundtable, a prestigious position for the best financial planners in the world. He was a religious leader as an Elder at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, Corpus Christi. He was a health fanatic who enjoyed daily jogs and loved eating healthy “nut and twig” cereals, yet who still indulged in egg-free ice cream. He also enjoyed traveling the world with his wife Gricel. When he was home, every morning he remembered to bring Gricel Starbucks coffee and to read his Bible. He passionately loved God, his family, his pets, and the Dallas Cowboys.

Michael is survived by his wife and best friend Gricel Shumway, his children Tiffany Kay, Michelle Loeb, and Oliver Buendia, his grandchildren Gavin Buendia and Sierra Loeb, his parents Rev. Francis and Martha Mennenga, his brother Nathan Mennenga, and many nieces and nephews.

Michael left us all with a legacy: A passionate love of God and family are the foundation of a beautiful, purposeful life.

Viewing will be held at Funeraria Del Angel-Memorial Holly Funeral Home, 3442 Holly Rd., Corpus Christi at 4:00 pm to 9:00 p.m. with remembrances by family and friends at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 30, 2014 and from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 pm with a wake at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 31, 2014 Funeral service will be held at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, 5101 Saratoga Blvd., Corpus Christi at 1:00 pm on Saturday, February 1, 2014. Interment will be at 2:00 p.m. at Grove Hill Memorial Park, 4118 Samuell Blvd., Dallas, TX on Monday, February 3, 2014
