Maria Louisa (Mary Lou) Garza, 68, of Corpus Christi, passed away on July 4, 2019. She was born in Kingsville where she grew up surrounded by a very large extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins.
She earned degrees in Education from Texas A&I and University of Houston. Mary Lou touched thousands of young people both as a teacher and school counselor until her retirement. She was an avid reader, passionate artist and enjoyed researching her family’s geneology.
She loved to travel and was known for hosting large parties for family and friends. Her sense of humor and fun-loving personality will forever be missed by those that loved her.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Irene Ybarra Trevino; her father, Gabriel R. Trevino; her brother, Luis Antonio Trevino and her youngest daughter, Marisa Ruiz.
She is survived by her beloved husband, David G. Garza; daughters, Rosa Lee Smith (Craig), Camille Ruiz, Irene Martinez (David), son David V. Garza (Denise); grandchildren, Danielle Dominguez, Paige Milligan, Faith Garza and Jason Gomez, and one great-granddaughter Mia Moore. She is also survived by her sisters, Gloria Villarreal (Pete), Esther Perez, Consuelo Espino (Salvador); sisters-in-law, Raquel Pruneda (Alex) and Irma Trevino (Jesse); brother-in-law, Carlos Garza (Julie) and 10 nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Memory Gardens Funeral Home in Corpus Christi on Wednesday, July 10, 2019 from 5:00 to 9:00pm. Funeral Services will take place on Thursday, July 11, 2019 at 10:00am at St. Martin’s Catholic Church in Kingsville with burial to follow at Santa Gertrudis Memorial Cemetery.
