He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Tommy Lee Hornsby and Alexander Hornsby Jr.; wife, Laura Hornsby for over 56 years; two sons, Adolph Hornsby and Harvey Hornsby; daughter, Fayedale Norwood.
Martin was a faithful member of the Church of Christ for over 70 years. He helped start the church in Bay City, Texas. He served as the Elder of Eastside Church of Christ in Austin, Texas for over 20 years.
Martin worked as an auto mechanic for the Roddfield Naval Base in Corpus Christi, Texas for 16 years. He owned an auto garage shop in Bay City, Texas for 20 years. He would cut grass even in his late Nineties-just to make a little spending money. He had great joy in selling watermelons, but at a profit. He loved working in his garden and he loved to fish. He had a sweet tooth-loved candy. He was never at a loss for words-always had something to say. He was a kind man, never met a stranger or anyone he would not talk to concerning his faith.
He leaves to mourn his wife, Linda Hornsby of Corpus Christi, Texas; daughter, Mary Hornsby of Austin, Texas; and step-daughter, Christine Lametrie of Houston, Texas; six granddaughters, one grandson, several great-grandchildren, a host of relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 6, 2013 from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Memory Gardens Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Hampshire Road Church of Christ. Interment will take place at 3:00 p.m. at Clearview Cemetery in Bastrop, Texas.
