Everybody called her Nena but I would call her nana and she would laugh that special laugh she had until we see you again many Blessings.

Longsuffering...that would be the word from the Bible that best described Mary Helen in my eyes.  She had such patience and showed such grace and forgiveness, especially towards a family such as ours when during the early years, patience, grace and forgiveness were often in short supply. 

She never to seemed to worry about herself, but rather to always put the needs of those around her first.  A shoulder to cry on, a warm hug, a listening ear, a smile to share...she was always there when you needed her.

If I could point to one person who consistently demonstrated the heart of Jesus Christ, especially when I was a kid caught in the middle of a divorce, it would be Mary Helen.

Mary Helen was an immeasurable blessing to our family as a whole, and to each and every one of our individual lives.  She will be greatly missed, but I know in my and according to Scripture, thanks be to Jesus, that I will get to see her again someday.

Thank you Mary Helen for being in our lives, and thank you for always being there for us.  And thank you Jesus for putting her into our lives.

My dearNena everybody talk today about everything that you did for them. I want to talk about what you did for me. When I marryEddie  all those years ago you were the first person to come up to me hug me deeply let's say we're family now. You or a blessing in our lives over the last 10 years we've enjoyed every Christmas every Thanksgiving every Easter and every fourth of July with you except a couple when you were hurt in the hospital. We love you our children love you our grandchildren love you you gave us nothing but happiness. I wished I had childhood memories with you but I don't but what I do have are all the memories or God let me take care of you. It's going to be so hard you have your own stocking you have your own Christmas ornaments you have your own room at my house and now it's empty because you left our lives to go live with Heavenly Father. I know our hearts are breaking because we miss you so but I'm so happy that you are now with Jesus and God and Mother Mary. I understand why you are named Mary or Maria or Nena it's a nurturing name and that's what you've done your whole life. The one thing I'm going to miss the most is talking to you every other day on the phone who am I going to talk to you between 1 and 3 Monday through Friday and 5 on Saturday and how am I ever going to understand another Mexican soap opera that you walk me through all the time. I chose the poem that ruby read about beside your bedside because it is my final goodbye to you. I'm happy for all the years you were in my life you made me a better person for it. The memories I have of you are special and mine. And for that I thank you. I will pray for you everyday until it's my time. I love you you're nice maybe not by Blood but my heart and spirit Kathy

Maria Elena aka Mary Helen, was like a mother to me as a small child.  I remember going home with her on the weekends and spending time with Libby, Jay and Sally and being invited into their homes and treated like a part of the family.  Mary Helen was a constant in my childhood home when there was much chaos going on in my family.  We'd stay up late watching movies and having snacks and she'd fall asleep next to me and snore the night away.  She always made me feel loved and safe.  I will miss her laugh and telling me, "don't you do that, Donnie Blanche".  It was her nickname for me and I will smile every time I think of her.  I love you, Mary Helen, and hope you have a giant garden in heaven filled with all the geraniums you loved and that you have unlimited time to watch all your favorite Disney movies with your loved ones who went before you.  You will be missed by me.

Mary was truly a blessing in my life because she loved my children as if they were her own.  She came to work for us in 1972 when I had three children and I was just getting out of the hospital.  She came at a time of chaos but, her sweet and steady ways, her loyalty and loving nature made her an important part of our family for over twenty years.  She made it possible for me to return to school and obtain my degree, she helped with Cub Scouts, Brownies, birthdays, holidays and eventually saw me through some tough times.  I could hear her clear across the house, in a feisty tone of voice telling whatever kid was currently in trouble to behave, "or I tell your momma."  She made me laugh, enjoyed her soap operas and loved to help clean out clothes closets so she could take the things my kids had outgrown to people that needed them.  Mary Helen had a heart of gold and was truly devastated over sad events in our family or individual lives. She laughed with me when the kids did funny things, worried with me when they were ill or in trouble and was always willing to provide an extra hand when needed.    Mary Helen epitomized the meaning of the word "faithful" and will be sorely missed by all of us who knew and loved her.
