Mickey was born in rural Corpus Christi on November 2, 1927. Fondly remembered as part of the greatest Generation, she met her husband Francisco, during the World War II era. Starting in the sixties, Mickey acquired her LVN and practiced nursing for over 50 years till she retired in 2008.
Mickey had a passion for nursing, which was witnessed in her practicing her profession for over 50 years. Mickey will forever be remembered as loving to dance and hear music. Mickey also loved to attend the bingo hall every night or travelling the world, especially to different casinos.
Mickey was also involved with the American Legion and the VFW. She was an avid bowler and even participated in several soft-ball leagues. All other friends and relatives knew her as the “fun lady”, with a different array of hats and cowboy boots at all the family parties and get-togethers. She might have been little, but she was known as being the life of the party, wherever she went.
Mickey was preceded in death by her husband, Franciso Ortiz and her loving daughter Annie Cortez. She is survived by her sons Ramon (Guadalupe) Ortiz, Francisco (Linda) Ortiz, Jesus (Virginia) Ortiz, and Roberto (Ana) Ortiz, and her son-in-law Daniel Cortez. Mickey had sixteen grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.CageMillsFuneralDirectors.com for the Ortiz family.
