Luis Mendiola passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on November 3, 2023 at the age of 89. Luis was born and raised in Hebbronville, Texas to Luis Mendiola and Demencia Corpus.
Luis retired from Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company where he worked for a number of years. Luis will be remembered for his love and devotion to his family. He will be fondly remembered for taking his family on memorable vacations, trips to the beach and spending Sunday afternoons having fun at the park. Luis was an avid baseball and football fan. One of his favorite pastimes was watching college football. His favorite team was the University of Texas Longhorns. A treasured childhood memory of his was traveling to Laredo, Texas with his father to watch Los Tecolotes play baseball. Luis also enjoyed spending an evening with his family at the ballpark watching the Corpus Christi Hooks.
Luis is survived by his loving wife, Maria, of 67 years; five children, Irasema (Iris) Ayala, Mary Lou (Roy) Riojas, Luis (Joanie) Mendiola, Yolanda M. Moreno and Joe (Lillian) Mendiola; six grandchildren, Jessica, Jennifer, Monica, Roy, Naomi and Natalie; five great-grandchildren, Jaden, Londyn, Aria, Isabella and Jorge.
Luis is preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Margarito Mendiola, Ubaldo Mendiola, Amelia Curiel, Hortencia Martinez, Alicia Mendiola, Herlinda Vela and Berta Serna. He is also preceded in death by his infant daughter, Blanca Estela, and granddaughter, Lydia Marie Ayala.
A visitation for Luis will be held Friday, November 17, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Funeraria Del Angel Memorial Holly, 3442 Holly Road, Corpus Christi, Texas 78415. A Holy Rosary will occur Friday, November 17, 2023 from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM, 3442 Holly Road, Corpus Christi, TX 78415. A mass of Christian Burial will occur Saturday, November 18, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Our Lady of Pilar Catholic Church, 1101 Bloomington Street, Corpus Christi, Texas 78416. A burial will occur Saturday, November 18, 2023 from 2:30 PM to 3:00 PM at Memory Gardens Memorial Park, 8200 Old Brownsville Road, Corpus Christi, Texas 78415.
Pallbearers are Victor Bocanegra, Gilbert Curiel, Michael De Ases, Jaden Lerma, Joe Donald Mican, and Marcos Serna. Honorary Pallbearer is Jorge Carlos Paree.
