John Charles Spears, Jr., 63, of Bayside, TX, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March, 10, 2010, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was at his mother’s home surrounded by loved ones when he passed away. John was born in Cuero, TX, to John Charles “Jake” and Gertrude “Trudie” (Anderson) Spears on February 2, 1947. He enlisted in the US Air Force but received a medical discharge from his service. His 30-year career began in 1970 with employment at Southwestern Bell, then with AT&T, and he retired from Lucent Technologies in 2000.
John was preceded in death by his father in 2001. He is survived by his beloved mother, Trudie, of Tomball, TX; brother, Gary, of Lancaster, TX; and sister, Cindy (Randall) Salge of Magnolia, TX; son, Ray (Kelly) Spears of Georgetown, TX; son, Wade Spears of San Francisco, CA; daughter, Charlene Essary of Beavercreek, OH; daughter, Joann Boctor of Moreno Valley, CA; daughter, Jacie (Jeremy) Rowland of Woodsboro, TX; 13 grandchildren; 1 great-grandson; 1 niece; 5 nephews.
John’s memorial service will be held Saturday, March 27, 2010, at 1:00 p.m., in the Memory Gardens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Warren Foxworthy of The Woodlands, TX, officiating. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to The American Cancer Society or to The Arthritis Foundation.
