John Eugene Quillin, Jr., age 87, of Flour Bluff, Texas, passed peacefully in his home surrounded by his family on Thursday, April 18, 2024. John was a resident of Flour Bluff, Texas for almost 50 years. He proudly served his country for over 20 years in the U.S. Navy including in the Vietnam War.
He was born in Mocksville, Davie County, North Carolina, to Eugene Quillin, Sr. and Maggie (Edwards) Quillin in 1937. He was the oldest of five children.
John is preceded in death by his parents, sister Linda Lankford, his best friend and cherished companion, Rascal, and Christopher Brewster, grandson in-law.
Survived by his wife of 57 years, Adela, and his children: Robert (Carolyn), Michael and Barbara (Jennings), sisters Mary Lou Salmons, Phyllis (Bobbie) Shore, and his brother, Edward “Eddie” Quillin. He has five grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
The family would like to thank Christus Hospice, especially Megan and Bethany, for allowing John (known as Eugene by his North Carolina family) to live his final days with dignity in his home. In addition, they would like to thank Kristen for compassionately caring for John as well as Adela and Barbara during his final days.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made in memory of John Eugene Quillin, Jr. to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN).
A visitation for John will be held Monday, May 6, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 2233 Waldron Road, Corpus Christi, TX. A recitation of the holy rosary will occur Monday, May 6, 2024 at 11:30 AM, 2233 Waldron Road, Corpus Christi, TX. A funeral mass will occur Monday, May 6, 2024 at 12:00 PM, 2233 Waldron Road, Corpus Christi, TX. A committal service will occur Monday, May 6, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery, 9974 IH 37 Access Rd, Corpus Christi, Texas 78410.
