John Albert Cheatham, 90 passed away Tuesday, June 3, 2014 in League City, Texas.
John was born January 18, 1924 to parents Josiah Cheatham and Gertrude Boyd in Amarillo, Texas, the youngest of 3 children. John was a graduate of Amarillo High School and Texas A&M University, obtaining a degree in petroleum engineering in 1947. He was a veteran of World War II. He met his bride, Mary Katherine Willis upon his return from the war and they married in 1948 in Edna, Texas. John was employed as a petroleum engineer for Texaco for 39 years until his retirement in Corpus Christi in 1986. John loved to spend time with his family and friends. John was a lifelong member of Webber Road Church of Christ in Corpus Christi until his move to the Houston area in 2010. He had a passion for evangelical work and was actively involved in various ministries throughout his life. He will be remembered as a generous and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and will be greatly missed by all who loved him.
He is survived by his daughter Jeanne Roddy & husband Richard; son John M. Cheatham & wife Valli; son Ricky Cheatham & wife Robin, son Tommy Cheatham & wife Irma; 7 grandchildren: Nancy Barcelo, Joshua Cheatham, Jonathan Cheatham, Rachel Dewveall, Jacob Cheatham, Timothy Cheatham, Andrew Cheatham; and 6 great-grandchildren: Bridget, Roddy, & Christina Barcelo, Judah & Joseph Cheatham, and Astrid Dewveall. He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years Mary Katherine Cheatham, sisters Margaret & Louise Cheatham, granddaughter Liz Roddy, and great-granddaughter Elizabeth Barcelo.
Viewing will be from 4:00 to 8:00 pm on Friday, June 6, 2014 at Memory Gardens Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 7, 2014 at 1:00 pm at Memory Gardens Funeral Home, 8200 Old Brownsville Road, Corpus Christi, Texas 78415. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
