Joel Mercer Yowell

Joel Mercer Yowell, 84, passed away on September 16, 2011. He was born in Clyde, Texas on November 26, 1926 to William Mercer Yowell and Gladys Garrison. He graduated from Abilene Christian College. He was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force.

He was employed as a media sales manager until his retirement. Joel served his community on numerous boards and commissions including the position of alderman on the Portland City Council. He served as the Nueces County Republican Party Chair from 2000-2006. He was also a member of the Kings Crossing Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Claborn Yowell: his sister, Ella Ruth Brannon; and both parents. He is survived by his five children; Quinn (Greg) Brown of Bellevue, Washington; Carl (Heidi) Yowell of Corpus Christi, Texas; Bill (Chloe) Yowell of Baytown, Texas; David Claborn of Leakey, Texas; and Susan (Paul) Watts of Abilene, Texas. He is also survived by his 12 beloved grandchildren.

The visitation will be held on Wednesday September 21, 2011 from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at the Cage-Mills Funeral Directors Chapel. Services will be held at the Kings Crossing Church of Christ at 10:00 A.M on Thursday September 22, 2011, with Reverend Mark Pugh officiating. Entombment will follow at Memory Gardens Mausoleum.
