We are sad to announce the passing of Jesse “Jay” Ortiz on April 9, 2023, at the age of 59, in his hometown of Corpus Christi, Texas. His battle with serious medical issues in recent months showed his courage in facing life challenges with a smile. Despite the pain, Jay came out a hero and stayed strong until the end. Jay passed away surrounded by his loved ones.
Jesse “Jay” Ortiz met the love of his life, Rachel, one evening enjoying a night out on the town. He didn’t know that his life would be changed forever. He would spend many wonderful years, growing a family, spreading love, always having the door open to all his children, grandchildren, bothers, sisters and to everyone he loved.
Jesse “Jay” Ortiz was a man of many talents. He worked for numerous years doing construction. Not just residential building construction but Commercial as well. Jay established his own construction company. With Jay the possibilities were endless, he would make it happen. He took pride in his work. It was always a joy for him to accomplish a job and for the client to be a hundred percent satisfied.
Jesse “Jay” Ortiz was a man with a unique combination of personality traits. His energy and passion for life was constant and limitless. Jay was forever ready for a good time. No words can explain the love he had for his family and close friends. Jay would drop anything and everything to help a friend or family member in need. He enjoyed going to church, giving thanks to the lord was at most important to him. He enjoyed dancing, lots of dancing, listening to good music, watching shows and movies, eating dessert, and of course going to the game rooms “Maquinitas”.
Jesse “Jay” Ortiz greatest and most cherished blessing in his life was his family that will carry on his legacy of love and staying together. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 26 years, Rachel Ortiz; sons, Jesse (Krystal) Ortiz Jr, Philip (Kim) Sirio, Matthew Sirio, James Ortiz (Destiny Gomez), Gabriel Garcia. Daughters Elizabeth Ortiz (Michael Bennett), Terrie Munoz, Alexandrea (Cesar) Juarez, Emarie Garcia (Roland Gamboa), Krista Garcia; mother Mary S. Barrios; brothers, Eddie (Jessica) Ortiz and David (Rebecca) Barrios; sisters, Olga (David) Sifuentes, and Delia (Victor) Barrios. Along with 13 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Jesse is reunited with his father, David O. Barrios, and sister, Mary Lou Bazan.
To honor his life, a public visitation for Jesse will be held Sunday, April 23, 2023, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Memory Gardens Funeral Home, 8200 Old Brownsville Road, Corpus Christi, Texas 78415. A rosary will occur Sunday, April 23, 2023, at 7:00 PM, at Memory Gardens Funeral Home. A funeral mass will occur Monday, April 24, 2023, at 10:00 AM at Ss Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church, 3210 S Padre Island Drive, Corpus Christi, Texas 78415. An interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
