I first crossed paths with Dicky at Shannon Junior high.  We were in PE together.   We had wrestling sometimes.  He was a handful for sure.   Sometimes we had flag football on the full field.  With only 5 or so each on each team, with all the field, he would zig and zag and you could hardly get within 10 feet of him.   Smiling all the while.   I probably had other classes with him then and  later maybe in high school but I don't recall too clearly.  We played on competing teams in Pony League baseball(13-14).  Due to his speed he was a good outfielder.  The Tigers(my team) won the first half,  and the Rangers(his team) won the second.  I was the catcher.  They won on a lousy drop ball that LARRY SMITH pitched, that I tried to shake him off, that got passed me and the runner on third scored.   I guess I shoulda been a better catcher.     Later, in our 20's, after Johnny Trevino led him, me and a passel of other surfer Texans out to California,  Dickie, Johnny, Baker!, and I wound up sharing a house in Carpinteria on the Dorrance Way.  The neighborhood joke was the Dorrance Way was a lifestyle.  and it was.  lol.  It was a good couple of years.   Surfing, what not.  Of course Johnnys already gone too.  Damn.  Miss them both.  Rest in Peace brothers.   I'm still in cal,  Dickie and the Texas boys moved back long ago.       Dave Beshears

What an incredible guy - always so full of life and never without a smile.  I'll miss you buddy!

Richard was my ex-husband and father of our two wonderful boys. Over the years we remained friends. He was a sweet honest man with a positive outlook on life. So sad that his life was cut short. Loved by everyone he met.

I grew up with all the Schuberts and man it made my life so much more fun than it would have been otherwise. Charlie was the first person I knew who discovered the band Ten Years After; Mike was the first person I knew who owned a surfboard; and Johnny was the first person I knew who could play a musical instrument (bass) exactly note for note while listening to an Allman Brothers song off a record. Dickie to me was also really talented...he was fast, coordinated, and really strong. Dickie was always fun to be around with a great personality. He was the youngest and pretty much had to fend for himself in a household of older brothers each with lots of friends and each very talented in surfing, baseball, art and music. Dickie was friends with all his older brothers friends...which meant he knew absolutely everybody. He always was in a good mood, was positive in his outlook, liked to laugh, was a loyal and helpful friend to all he knew. I am going to miss Richard and mostly I am going to miss his energy field. God Bless him.

I remember the good days of playing jr. high football with Dickie. He was one of a kind and a friend.

Dickie was good friends with my brother Clark back in the day.  Will pray for him and the family.

Dickie and I played in the sandbox together, so I have never known life without him.  I am so sad to hear of his passing.  He was quite the character and always made me laugh.  My thoughts are with his family at this time.  I wish I could be there to share in person.  I am there in spirit.  Rest in peace,my dear friend.

We will miss Dickie so very much. He was a part of our family and he watched our three children grow up from babies to adults. He spent many days and nights at our home breaking bread and sharing life long memories which we will cherish and never forget. We received and sent text messages to him on Easter Sunday which was also my birthday, they will not be forgotten. We would like to send our condolences and prayers to the Schubert brothers as well as Ryan and Blake. We love you Dickie and we will miss you.

Surfing Bob's won't be the same without you, my friend. Vaya Con Dios y Aloha Nui Loa.

I was so sad to hear of Dickie's passing.  He was a dear friend throughout high school and afterwards.  I have so many wonderful memories of fun times spent hanging out with him and Don Jarrett and Greg Celeski, especially all those times at the beach.  He was one of the nicest friends I ever had.
My thoughts and prayers go out to all of his family.
