Hugh Eslie Smith

Hugh Eslie Smith, age 90, of Corpus Christi, Texas passed away on Tuesday, July 25, 2023. Hugh Eslie Smith was born on December 9, 1932 in Bogue Chitto, Mississippi to Hugh Smith, Sr. and Nola Jane Smith. He married Eleanor Theresa Singleton on August 12, 1951. Hugh was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and great-great grandfather.

Hugh started his career in the US Air Force, where he served with honor and distinction during the Korean Conflict. After his military service, he worked in retail management for most of his career, and then worked with commercial restaurant manufacturers to market their equipment to businesses across South Texas. Upon retirement, Hugh volunteered his service to a number of boards and commissions in an effort to give back to the community.

Hugh was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, an infant son, Michael Austin Smith; and granddaughter, Tiffany Douglas. He is survived by his loving children, Stephen Smith, Bryan Smith and Kathleen (Richard) Turner; grandchildren, Stephen Jason Smith, Angela Kristin Smith, Ian Michael Smith, Sean Michael Turner and Lauren Melissa (Peter) Repp; great grandchildren, Caitlyn DeShae Douglas, Christopher Kindal Douglas and Laura Ann (Vesper) Douglas; and his great-great grandchildren, John Christopher Taylor, Aurora Lux Aughtmann, Bo Alan Douglas, Josey Pearl Douglas, and Ian Bennet Williams.

A visitation for Hugh will be held Sunday, August 6, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Funeraria Del Angel Everhart, 4901 Everhart Road, Corpus Christi, TX 78418. A funeral service will occur Monday, August 7, 2023 from 8:30 AM to 9:15 AM, 4901 Everhart Road, Corpus Christi, TX 78418. A committal service will occur Monday, August 7, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 10:30 AM at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery, 9974 I-37, Corpus Christi, TX 78410.
