Val Valentine is preceded in death by a daughter Diane Valentine, age 12, his beloved wife of 53 years, Valerie Valentine (Pettit), and his second wife of three years, Marian Daly.
Val is survived by his brother: Clark James Valentine (Peggy), four children: George L. Valentine (Sharon), Lynn Valentine Cockrill (Robert), Sharon Valentine-Hart (Daniel) and Thomas C. Valentine. He also leaves behind ten grandchildren: Shane Valentine (Andrea), Tiffany Kirk-Herndon (Clay), Elaina Wilkins (Chad), Lindsay Hart, Thomas Valentine, Valerie Boyd (Lucas), Ryan Lumpp, Matthew Valentine and Nicholas Hart, as well as, seven great grandchildren.
At age 16, Val enlisted in the Merchant Marines and served in World War II. At 18, he enlisted in the U. S. Army where he served in Korea and two tours in Viet Nam. During his service, he flew helicopters and was the recipient of 3 bronze stars and a purple heart. After serving 26 years of active duty, Val retired from the Army as a CW04 in 1973 with his family to Corpus Christi, Texas. He was a successful realtor and member of the Corpus Christi Realtor Association.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the “Walk With Pride Foundation” founded by Val in 1983 are appreciated. Please contact the CCRA at 361-991-8221. The foundation allows children selected by the Nueces County Department of Human Services to purchase a brand new pair of shoes to wear for the first day of school. For this work, Val received the Jefferson Award.
Viewing will be held at Memory Gardens Wednesday, February 27th from 4-8 p.m. Services and burial will be held Thursday, February 28th at 11:00 a.m. at Memory Gardens Funeral Home in Corpus Christi.
