George Franklin Haney passed away at the age of 88 on January 8, 2014. He was born on August 30, 1925 to Dewitt & Ruby Haney. George was a 1943 graduate of CCHS, served in the US Navy in WWII from 1943-1945, and then attended the University of Texas. He was a member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity.
George worked as an accountant, home builder, loan officer & VP of Texas Commerce Bank, administrator for Thomas Spann as well as Cardiology Associates.
Loving his church, St. Luke’s United Methodist, he served as chairman of the building committee for the present sanctuary along with many other committees. George was a member of CC Rotary Club, Nueces County Board of Parks & Recreation, and CC Chamber of Commerce.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Dorothy Schroeder Haney, three daughters: Karen (Coy) Reece of Montgomery, TX., Dr. Pamela (Dr. J Marvin) Prewitt of Corpus Christi, and Patricia (Bob) Mitchell of George West, TX. G-George is also survived by four grandchildren: Tommy (Angie) Mitchell, Toy (Dennis) LeVasseur, Brett Mitchell, and Nicki (Toby) Murray. He had 8 great-grandchildren: Aubree’, Dyson, Ranee’, Murray, Tobias, Hudson, Charley Marie, and soon to arrive – Emma Grace. He had one great, great grandson, Grady Coy. Other survivors are his sister Margaret (David) Levy, brother Vic (Dawn) Haney, and sister-in-law Marion Schroeder, as well as many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Angel Bright Hospice, all his caregivers - especially Trease Fullingim, whom has been a God-send to George and the family. Many thanks also to his faithful physicians and friends, Dr. Mike Neff and Dr. Jack Ormand.
Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at Cage-Mills Funeral Directors. Funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 12, 2014 at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Seaside Memorial Park.
