She was born to her mother Stanislava Reiss and her father Fronholz Hoflich - who died in battle before Erika’s birth, and was raised by her stepfather Helmut Reiss along with her beloved brothers and sister. Although raising a child in post World War II Germany must have been difficult, her parents never let her know this strife, as Erika reminisced about her childhood very fondly.
As a young adult, Erika immigrated to Texas to raise three daughters in the coastal fishing town of Aransas Pass.
Erika was known for her many talents in sewing, knitting, crocheting and macrame. She would hand stitch baby clothes, dresses and cheerleading uniforms for her daughters, family and friends to absolute perfection into the wee hours of the night. She was an endlessly patient, doting mother to her daughters and a joyful “Omi” to her grandkids. Erika ran a daycare from her home for several years, becoming the “Omi” to many local children who adored her.
Erika’s fun loving spirit was most excited by her other passions- Elvis Presley and Christmas. Her happy place would be swooning to Elvis records in her living room that was perpetually adorned with elaborate Christmas decor- 365 days a year.
Erika is preceded in death by her husband Claude (Pete) Hamilton, her grand-daughter Nicole Corser, and her brother Werner Hoflich. She is survived by her daughters; Sindy Pfaab (George), Venka Webb (Preston), and Rebecca Corser (Kent), as well as her grandchildren Waylon Schultz, Erika and Forrest Pfaab, Nikki Lynn Webb and Clark Corser, in addition to her sister Gisela Hager and brother Peter Reiss.
