She was born in La Feria, Texas on September 16, 1928. Emily graduated from Corpus Christi High School in 1947. She was married to Hector Daniel Tovar, Sr. on December 6, 1958 and together they raised three children.
Emily was an administrative assistant at McKesson & Robbins Wholesale Pharmaceutical Company and for the Texas Department of Human Services Food Stamp Office. Emily, who enjoyed numbers and calculations, did annual tax work for H&R Block, as well as for family and friends.
A devout Catholic, she was a long-time, dedicated member of Ss. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church, serving as a volunteer for the Works of Mercy, a Eucharistic Minister, and a member of the Guadalupana Society.
Emily was passionate about community involvement and served as a member of the Veteran’s of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary. As an involved baseball mother and wife of a coach, she served on the Board of Trustees at Central Park Little League for many baseball seasons. Emily enjoyed traveling and visited states from New York to California. She was a sports fanatic and enthusiastically cheered on her Dallas Cowboys and Houston Astros.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Emilio and Exisquia Ornelas Coronado; her brother Lucio Coronado; sister, Mary Patino; and granddaughters, Erica Lynn Tovar and Dominique Cushman.
Emily is survived by her husband of 62 years, Hector Tovar, Sr.; Two sons, Hector (Gaylyn)Tovar, Jr., and Eric (Valerie) Tovar; One daughter, Michelle (Jimmy) Perkins; Seven grandchildren, Tara, Daniel, Jay, Kristina, Sabine, Ethan and Britney; Four great-grandchildren, Leighton, Naveah, Ary’ianah, and Savanah’aa; and Two sisters, Natalie (Nelly) Longoria and Francis Medina.
Family will receive friends at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, November 2, 2020 at Memory Gardens Funeral Home.
A Holy Rosary will be recited at 11:00 a.m. on Monday November 2, 2020 at Ss. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church with a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. that same morning.
Interment will follow at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, November 2, 2020 at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery.
