Eleuterio Cano of Corpus Christi, Texas passed away November 19, 2023 at 89 years of age. He was born on February 20, 1934 in El Naranjo Ranch, a rural community near Brownsville, Texas. He attended Santa Rosa High School in Santa Rosa, Texas. He was inducted into the United States Army in 1956 serving with A Company, 7th Medical Battalion, 7th Infantry Division in South Korea. Building on his military technical training, he pursued a mechanical trade. He attended The Bailey Technical Schools in St. Louis, Missouri.
He moved to Corpus Christi in 1960 staying with family who were working for Billy Ray London on his London Ranch. There he would meet his future wife, Rosa Maria Ortiz who also was staying with family working on the same ranch.
For many years, he took courses in Industrial Education at The University of Texas extension, Del Mar College and the U.S. Army Depot Maintenance Center all in Corpus Christi, Texas all related to aircraft mechanics. He retired from the Corpus Christi Army Depot after 29 years. Eleuterio and Rosa Maria would acquire a several rent homes and started a successful cleaning business after his retirement.
Eleuterio and Rosa Maria made their home in Corpus Christi where they raised their children, Eduardo, Jorge, Eleuterio Jr., Fanny and Jesse. Eleuterio was very interested in classic cars, flipping many over his lifetime. He was a huge boxing fan, cheering on Canelo, Ali, Foreman, Duran and many others. Eleuterio and Rosa Maria were members of Christ the King Catholic Church and Most Precious Blood Catholic Church for many years.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-eight years, Rosa Maria Ortiz Cano of Alamo, Texas; his sons, Eduardo, Jorge (Margie), Eleuterio Jr., Jesse (Angel); his daughter, Fanny Cano Williams; his grandchildren, Christopher and Mikaela Williams of Memphis, Tennessee, Julie Cano of Austin, Texas, Vanessa Cano, Anastazia Cano, Troy Cano and Mark Cano of Corpus Christi, Texas his great-grandchildren, Evangeline Williams of Memphis, Tennesse, Ezekiel Sanchez of Corpus Christi, Texas.
Additionally, he is survived by his brother, Victor Cano of Universal City, Texas, a Korean War Veteran.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, Gervacio Cano and Micaela Salazar, his brothers, Guadalupe Cano (Felipa), Jose Cano a Korean War Veteran, Amado Cano, a Korean War Veteran; his sisters, Maria Rita Gonzalez (Jesus), Micaela Longoria (Tomas), Manuela Villarreal (Pilar), Juanita Vuittonet (Alfredo), Aurora Garcia (Antonio), Hermelinda Arce.
Public visitation will begin on Monday, December 4, 2023 at 10:00 am at Funeraria Del Angel Memorial Holly with a holy rosary to be recited at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery.
