Donald Douglas Palmer, age 82, passed away on March 28, 2014 in the presence of his family. He was born February 1, 1932 in Temple, Texas to Thomas Maxwell and Bernice Palmer. He grew up in the Hillcrest area and there he met Carol Jane O’Neil. They married on June 11, 1955, shortly after he completed service in the United States Air force. Don worked in the oil field service industry and was a partner in Brine Service Company. He was an avid bowler for many years and enjoyed working in his woodshop crafting and restoring custom pieces from heirloom wood for all to enjoy. His passion for crafting things by hand led him to build a log home on the Frio River outside of Leakey, Texas, where he loved to spend time with family and friends. Don was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.
Don is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Thomas Maxwell Palmer Jr. He is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Janie; his sons, Randall (Tracie) of Orange Grove, TX and Stephen (Robin)of Corpus Christi; six grandchildren, Janice (Mark) Wilder of San Antonio, Marsha (John) Hutchens, Derek Palmer, Craig Palmer, and Kacey Palmer all of Corpus Christi, Sheri Palmer of Stephenville, TX and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, Direce (Martha) Palmer of Kerrville, Texas.
The family will be receiving friends on Tuesday, April 1, 2014 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Memory Gardens Funeral Home. Funeral services for Don will be on Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at 10:00 am at Memory Gardens Funeral Home with interment to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
