Deadra Sue “Suzie” Shumake went home to be with the Lord on Thursday February 24, 2022, at her home surrounded by her loved ones. She valiantly fought the battle but it was the Lord’s will to bring her home. She was born to the late Claude and Margaret “Muggsy” Merritt in San Antonio, Texas on August 28, 1951. She was a preschool educator for many years and touched the lives of countless young people that have grown into successful adults. After retiring she spent numerous years caring for her mother and her beloved husband. In her free time, she followed her grandchildren’s activities from cheer, to band, to sports.
Suzie was blessed with a large and loving family. She had 10 siblings, many nieces and nephews as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins who will miss her sweet smile, loving words, and her constant faith in God. She was a beloved wife, mother, “Drammaw”, daughter, sister, and aunt.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband Robert Parrish, her parents, Claude and Margaret Merritt, one brother Gary Wayne, and multiple aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Suzie married her best friend and love of her life, Robert Parrish Shumake, “Robbie”, and together they have two children, Jerrell Dwayne Shumake (Becka) and Laura Diane Silva (Rene), and a bonus son, Jarrett Hatley Merritt (Annette). She has 5 grandchildren, LaDawn Waldrop (Tyler), Brandon Silva, Jemma Shumake (Nick), Katie Silva (Ruben), Christopher Silva (Aleena), and Mason Ebert (Sierra), as well as her pride and joys, her great-grands Jolene, Wyatt, and Rayden. She was generous, loving and kind, and raised her children with patience, discipline when needed, humility and to always remain kind, loving and steadfast in their faith.
We know that we can’t have you, but we are so happy knowing that the angels finally got you back.
Goodbye to a wonderful woman and a beautiful mother.
