Christina Garcia passed away in her home surrounded by her loving family on October 22, 2023 at the age of 91. Christina was born on December 20, 1931, in Mazatlan, Texas to her parents Cresenciana and Vidal Garcia, and raised in San Diego, Texas.
She attended San Diego High School where she played volleyball and ran track. After high school, she married the love of her life and high school sweetheart, Baldemar S. Garcia. Together they shared sixty-three years of love and devotion. They welcomed five children and later raised five grandchildren. Christina was an integral part of her children and grandchildren’s lives. She volunteered with many of their activities including with PTAs, as a Little League team mom, and as a member of various Booster Clubs at Moody and Carroll high schools. She showed immense and unconditional dedication to her loved ones. She was also a faithful member of the Catholic Daughters. Christina enjoyed a long career as a deli and bakery manager at Shoppers World and Kroger’s. She was well known for her baking skills in and out of work. If Christina was attending a gathering, she always arrived with a cake, pastry, or pan de polvo. Guests would scan the dessert table and ask, “Which one did Christina make?” and there was never a bite left! She also cooked fantastic menudo, tortillas and tamales. She always looked forward to festive holiday tamaladas with her sisters and sister in laws. Christina was also always dressed to impress with glittery shoes and perfectly matching jewelry. Even as she grew older, her outfits continued to sparkle and shine. She also loved her morning coffee at the house. In fact, if you have ever had a fresh cup of coffee, a taco with a homemade tortilla, a little chisme, and a lot of laughs with Christina, you were blessed with a perfect morning.
Christina is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Baldemar S. Garcia, her children Ronaldo “Ronnie” Garcia, and Yvonne G. Salazar, and her sisters Cresenciana [Enrique] Solis, Theresa Trigo [Jorge], and Maria Garcia. She is survived by her children, Baldemar Garcia, Jr. [Gloria], Roberto L. Garcia [Sandra], and Elizabeth Garcia, her grandchildren who she raised as her own Esmeralda, Jose Luis, Elyssa, Madalenn, Joshua and her grandchildren Marisa, Carmen, Kristin, Alexandria, Matthew, Zachary, Evan and Bobby Jr.. Christina was also blessed with eighteen great grandchildren. She is survived by her brothers Vidal Garcia [Esmeralda], Jesus M. Garcia [Irene], and her sister Tomacita Olivares [Jose], and numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews who all loved her dearly.
The family would like to extend a special appreciation to Christina’s care providers Crystal Bustamante, Yvon Martinez, and Julia Hernandez who loved and cared for her as if she was their own granny. Thank you as well to Corpus Christi Hospice which always helped Christina and the family when needed. Much gratitude to all family and friends who helped make Christina’s final days comfortable and peaceful. Her vibrancy and love of life will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.
