Her father was a farmer and had farms in Louisiana, Illinois, Iowa and Kansas. Etna graduated High School in Modesto, California. The family moved to Waterloo, IA, where Etna met and married Gerald Scott Sr. on Feb. 10 1935. Sons, Robert Gayle and Gerald Scott Jr., were born in Waterloo. Her daughter Eileen was born in Wichita, KS and in 1949 Gerald and Etna moved to Corpus Christi, TX where daughter Connie was born.
Etna worked at Santa Fe Pharmacy for 35 years. She was a Questioned Document Examiner. She was always active in her church teaching VBS, Sunday school classes and mentoring classes. She played her beloved violin every Sunday as long as she was able. Our mother always said to never let the grass grow under your feet or let the flies gather by inactivity. She had a purpose of each day. She was five days short of her 103 birthday.
Etna was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Constance Brown; husband, Gerald Scott Sr.; sons, Bob Scott, and Jerry Scott; siblings, Wesley Brown, Wallace Brown, Emerson Brown and Louise Brown Schmidt. Survivors include daughters, Eileen Scott Speer (Roy) of Breckenridge, TX and Connie Scott Richards (Gary) of Burlington, CT; and daughters in law, Lina Scott of Banquete, TX and Charlene Scott of Kingman, AZ; sisters, Etheleen Andrews of Washington, IL and Ruth Davis of Westminister, Co. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.
A visitation will be held at Memory Gardens Funeral Home on Friday, May 13, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
A Funeral Service will be held at Memory Gardens Funeral Home on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. with Interment to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandsons and great grandsons.
