Charles B. Alexander died on February 25, 2017 at his home in Corpus Christi. He was 86. He was born on October 3, 1930 in Carleton, Nebraska. Charles grew up in San Antonio, TX, graduating from South San Antonio High School in 1947.
He enlisted in the Navy in 1948 and served in the Korean and Vietnam Conflicts. He proudly served 26 ½ years in the U. S. Navy retiring as a Master Chief Hospital Corpsman in August 1974. Charles served on the Harbor Playhouse Board of Directors, Corpus Christi Knife & Fork Board of Directors, Corpus Christi Crime Stoppers Board of Directors and several committees at Wesley United Methodist Church.
He was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association, Branch 94, American Legion, VFW, DAV, Corpus Christi Masonic Lodge #189, Houston Scottish Rite and Al Amin Shrine. After retiring from the Navy, he returned to Corpus Christi and attended Texas A&I University - Corpus Christi and graduated in May 1976 with a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration (Finance). He was subsequently employed by Del Mar College as Purchasing Agent where he retired in January 1997, as Director of Purchasing after twenty years service.
In addition to his wife, Betty Ann (Read) Alexander, he is survived by his children; Linda Kay (Alexander) Jennings (Don), and LuAnn (Alexander) Dunn; grand-children Candace Robert (Jeff), Patrick Dunn and Amanda Jaime (David); and great-grand-children Caden and Lauren Robert. He is also survived by sisters Marilyn Brownrigg, Nola Hanson (Ken); and brothers Maurice (Margaret), Velda (Lillian), Robert (Shirley), George (Linda), and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Velda and Jesse and his brothers Johnnie and Edward and sister-in-law Linda.
Visitation is scheduled from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 2, 2017 at Cage-Mills Funeral Directors Chapel. Funeral service is scheduled at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, March 3, 2017 at Wesley United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery.
