Catherine "Katy" Garza Olivo was called home by our Lord on October 1, 2022, at the age of 85. Catherine was born in Corpus Christi, Texas on September 5, 1937, to Trinidad Soliz Garza and Maria G. Garza. Catherine was married to her beloved Fidel Olivo, Jr., for forty-six years, who preceded her in death in 2003. Catherine and Fidel had six children that she loved very much.
Catherine was better known as Katy. She was also known as Queen Katy, The Queen, and Queenie. Katy was the matriarch - the heart and soul of the family. If you knew Katy, you knew love and felt it every second you were around her.
Katy is survived by her six children: Norma Nunez (Willie), Fidel Olivo, III (Velma), Laura Villarreal (Ralph), Margarita Silvas (Raul), Hermelinda Lozano (Arthur) and Esmeralda Chavana (Charles). Katy had twenty-five grandchildren, fifty-three great-grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews and her beloved Olivo family.
If there is one word to describe Katy, it is "LOVE". Everyone that met Katy instantly fell in love with her and she easily returned the favor. She had so much love to give and those around her felt every ounce of it, all of the time. Katy was radiant. She radiated positivity, kindness and gratitude. She was everyone's Queen, grandmother, mother, and friend. She was one of a kind, a true gem. You will never know another Katy.
Katy was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church. She enjoyed Spanish bible classes and sang in the Spanish choir. Katy made many friends in church, and over the years those friendships turned into a sisterhood that she held very dear to her heart.
Katy was a social butterfly. Whether it was in person, a phone call, text, on Facebook, or Snapchat, Katy knew how to brighten everyone's day with her kind words and compliments. She never missed an opportunity to tell you she loved you or how beautiful and wonderful you were. Katy recalled everyone's birthdays and dates of special events as well as phone numbers. Nowadays, that is a rare ability.
Katy rooted for her favorite football team, The TEXANS, as well as trying her luck with pot numbers. She's known for her bright red lipstick smile and red polished nails. Katy loved God, life, family and her friends.
Katy will always be remembered for her kind heart, loving words, and sweet smile. The world feels different without Katy in it. So, when you think of Katy, remember the love and kindness she shared with you. We should all continue to spread love and kindness in memory of Katy - she would have loved that.
Katy's beautiful life will be celebrated on Friday, October 14, 2022, from 8:00 a..m. - 12:00 p.m. at Memory Gardens, 8200 Old Brownsville Road, Corpus Christi, Texas. A holy rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m. A Lutheran memorial service at 10:00 a.m., and an inurnment at 11:00 a.m. At the time of the inurnment, Katy and her beloved Fidel, will be reunited for all eternity.
The family would like to thank the numerous staff (Dr. Mirayala) at Dr.'s Regional, 2nd floor Cardiac Unit, and 3rd floor East for treating our mother with the utmost care and respect. Also, our thanks and gratitude to River City Hospice (Dr. Franco) for their relentless assistance in making our mother as comfortable as possible and to Melinda P. In honor of Katy's recent love of Mexican Culture, the family asks that you wear a guayabera, floral prints or anything colorful. May Queen Katy rest in eternal peace. As Katy would often say "Nombre sea Dios!"
