Bruce Hernandez, age 49, passed away on June 26, 2017. He was a beloved son, brother and uncle. He was a graduate of UCLA with a Bachelor’s degree in Theoretical Physics and continued to receive a Master’s Degree in Astrophysics at California Institute of Technology. Through Caltech, he continued on his career pathway to work at Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), a NASA subsidiary. His career focused on working cohesively as a data analyst on the famed Phoenix and Curiosity rovers that landed on Mars. While Bruce was born in Corpus Christi, Texas, the majority of his life resided in San Diego, California. Leading up to his final years, Bruce moved back to Corpus Christi, Texas to care for his mother after the passing of his father, Roberto Hernandez. In doing so, it displayed the devotion and unconditional love that he had for his family. All that had the pleasure of meeting Bruce could attest to his selflessness, generosity and overall, good soul. He is survived by his mother, Margarita Hernandez; brothers, Robert (Carol) Hernandez Jr., Orlando (Rose Mary) Hernandez and Javier (Maria Celeste) Hernandez; nieces and nephews, Cayla Marie A. Hernandez, Casey A. Hernandez, Julian Alexander A. Hernandez, Rebecca Marie Hernandez, John Robert Hernandez, Olivia Rose Hernandez, Brianna Marie Hernandez, Jessica Alexis Hernandez, Thomas Bruce Hernandez, Daniel A. Hernandez; as well as his aunts, uncles and other relatives. Bruce also had a close network of lifelong friends that were like family to him. The Hernandez family will be receiving friends at Memory Gardens Funeral Home at 8200 Old Brownsville Rd. Corpus Christi, Texas 78415 on Sunday, July 2, 2017 from 6:00pm to 9:00 pm with a talk to be held at 7:00 pm that same evening. Another Talk will take place at Memory Gardens Funeral Home on Monday, July 3, 2017 at 10:00 am with interment to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
