Beatriz Villarreal Montez

Beatriz V. Montez, 86, passed away Friday, February 24, 2023. She was a member of Ss. Cyril and Methodious Catholic Church. She was born on September 3, 1936 in Mercedes, TX. She later moved to Corpus Christi where she graduated from Del Mar College and met her husband, Juan C. Montez.

She started her career at Driscoll Children’s Hospital and also worked for various Pediatric medical offices as a lab technician. She retired from the V.A. Clinic. After retirement, she volunteered at several CCISD campuses as a Granny assisting teachers with elementary students. She loved her students and often spoke of the hugs they would give her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Augustin and Martina Villarreal, her siblings, Elias and Arturo Villarreal, Elisa Cavazos, Hormandin Villarreal, Berta Chavanna, her husband, Juan C. Montez, her children, John A. Montez, Elizabeth L. Montez, and Alexander C. Montez. She is now reunited with all of them after much heartache. After Beatriz was widowed, she remarried Mr. Gilbert Cruz. Although separated, they remained friends.

She is survived by her daughter Debbie A. Torres (Prajedes M. Torres III), her sister, Estefana Santana, grandchildren, Jesse R. Montez (Christina), John D. Montez (Marcie), Marisa Y. Montez (Luis Aguilar), Andrea N. Torres (Julian DeLaCruz), Monique A. Montez, Jennifer Montez and Jonathan Montez. She leaves behind 15 great grandchildren that she loved dearly. She will be remembered as a great grandma that was full of energy and loved running around and chasing them. She is also survived by her sister in laws, Peggy Bryan and Christina Villarreal, along with numerous cousins, nephews and nieces.

Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 7, 2023 at Memory Gardens Chapel with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 8, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Ss. Cyril and Methodious Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jesse R. Montez, John D. Montez, Michael J. Montez, Jose L. Aguilar, Julian DeLaCruz Sr. and Israel J. Bentancourt. Honorary Pallbearers will be Julian J. DeLaCruz Jr. and Luis A. Aguilar.
