To Colleen and the Tanner family.  I am bereft at the loss of Bossy Baby.  Please accept my belated condolences  for the loss of such a dear man.  I hope you are comforted in your grief by the many contributions he made while he was here and the lives he touched with his calm, reassuring presence.  May the Most High, Sovereign God continue to hold you all in the palm of His hand.  Trish (SMRH retired).

This man changed my life. I'm sorry I wasn't everything he expected of me, but I will always remember him fondly.

I will always remember and appreciate Marsh's kindness and smiling face, and the many, many years of service he rendered to the JRCLS. My heartfelt condolences to his family and friends. He will be missed.

I've been blessed and grateful to have worked closely with Marsh over the past 30 years in many capacities.  First, he raised to a much higher level the OC Chapter functions of the J. Reuben Clark Law Society that I helped to co-found in 1990.  As an Int'l Chair of the JRCLS, he also helped to prepare me for that same role later.  Our law practices in real estate and finance often overlapped.  In fact, our law offices with similar major firms were in the same building.  It was in our church relations that we grew even closer.  As a Regional Rep (1992-95), I met often with him as the HB North Stake President and spoke in his stake many times.  When I was released to be the OC Director of Public Affairs, he was my Priesthood Advisor and wisely counseled me in expanding our outreach in many directions.  I greatly benefited from his insights, experience and gospel mastery.  He made everything that he did work even better.  He was how I always want to be. I remember the summers he would come and stay with his Unclce Jack &Aunt ReNee.  I always looked up to him , what a good example he was to me as a young boy . What a wonderful & sucessful man he became . Although I did.t see him often enough , he did influence my life . 

President Tanner was absolutely myself and my sisters favorite Bishop and dear friend. My favorite day was when my sister was married, and President Tanner presided over her ring ceremony. He was the only choice for the special task. He was a beacon of light, and will continue to be until we meet again. Much love to the Tanner family.

I was blessed to get to work closely with Marsh for several years while he was at the Church Office of General Counsel.  Often when I would call, ready to get down to business, Marsh would slow me down--ask how I was doing--ask about my family and how things were going at work, in Church callings, and even with my health.  I will never forget how he made me feel.  And it wasn't just once in awhile--it was genuine and constant.   He ministered to all, even when he was the one in need.  What a wonderful Christlike man.

I hope to be a little more like Marsh in my interactions with others.  Colleen and family, may you be blessed with the peace only He can provide.  I have faith in the truth that He will not leave us comfortless in these times of loss. 

   

I love President Tanner and Sister Tanner greatly.  I served for just a brief 6 months with them, and I was forever changed. Thank you for your love, confidence, and unwavering example of Christ. 

Thank you for the wonderful life you both have lived. The influence on my life and of my family's means everything. Love you Sister Tanner, I am grateful for the glad tidings that assure us of the wonders of God's plan, and the beautiful events still to come.

I'll always remember the love and kindness that both President and Sister Tanner shared with all missionaries.

I’m so sorry for your loss. I had the blessing of meeting with Marsh weekly from 2019-2020 while serving as ALC in Argentina. It was the highlight of my week as I left the meetings uplifted, tutored and inspired. His knowledge and experience were remarkable and his kindness unfailing. Coupled with his sense of humor, his service epitomized what we all strive for.  I know the meetings were a physical challenge for him, which impressed me even more. Thank you for sharing him with us and, I know, with hundreds of people over the years. What a remarkable life!

Marsh was the most kind, patient and supportive colleague for all of us in the legal team for the Church.  My life was enriched by our association.  Even as his health declined whenever I asked him how he was doing, his reply was "Better than I deserve!"  But that was not true.  If life had given him what he deserved he never would have had the challenges he did.  He was a disciple of Christ in every sense and I am sure that his ultimate reward in heaven will be what he richly deserves.  

Dear Colleen and family,

Growing up by your family helped guide me through my life. Marsh took me out to lunch to talk about being a lawyer and explained the pros and cons of his profession. His advice on what it would take to be a successful lawyer helped me realize that I loved the study of law but not a particular practice in it. I became a teacher  for learning different students and continue it to this day. My dad and Marsh example of patience and willingness to play even in his suit (we would play one on one games of basketball in the church gym) have guided my working with teenagers my entire life. I am forever grateful for the example and guidance Marsh gave me in my life. I am sorry for your loss of such a fine example of how to live a Christlike life.

Dear Colleen and Family,

My family and I are thinking of you and praying for you at this difficult time. We know how much Marsh will be missed!

I am personally grateful for you and Marsh, Colleen. I have such wonderful memories as a young boy of you visiting us in Salt Lake while you were attending school at BYU.  It was also a privilege to visit with Marsh at J Reuben Clark Law School events. He always had great stories (I'm sure he made Aunt Mart proud!) and he was an awesome missionary. I also know he loved you, Colleen, and his children and grandchildren.

Thank you both for your lives of service and honoring the Lord. I am blessed by your example.

Marsh and i had the privilege of spending some time most Fridays during my early days working with the Church's Office of General Counsel.  I looked forward to our visits, learned much and most of all felt his unconditional love for me and my family.  This photo was on the title slide of a presentation Marsh gave at one of our fall meetings entitled "Things I wish I had known or done when I became an ALC." What followed were 9 sage statements of counsel that i have remembered and tried to follow during my service as an Area Legal Counsel.  Thank you Marsh for all you are and all you freely gave to us all. 

I think Uncle Marsh loved that I went to UCLA for grad school even more than my own parents did. During my two years there, and anytime he saw me after I graduated (15 years ago!), he would greet me with a hug, a kiss on the cheek, and he would ask, “How’s my favorite Bruin?” I love that we got to be Bruins together and I loved having his love and support.

Marsh - I sincerely look forward to our happy reunion on the other side.  How I loved seeing your warm smile and receiving your gracious greeting every time we met.  How grateful I am for your kind, wise and patient mentoring--especially during my first year as a member of The Office of General Counsel during that challenging year of the outbreak of the global pandemic.   How I admire the legacy of you and your amazing companion in enduring well together despite some meaningful health challenges in later years of life.  What a tremendous example you are to me of what it looks like to thrive on the covenant path.  

Allison and I send all our love to you and to the entire Tanner family at this tender time of remembrance and mourning.  May you rest in peace until we meet again, brother.

Uncle Marsh is the most wonderful man and the best uncle I could've asked for. He is so kind, so full of love, and always made every niece & nephew feel incredibly special and important. He always greeted me with a huge hug and kiss and told me he loved me. I'm so grateful I have had his example in my life. I'm grateful to be a Tanner, he & I will be tied together as family forever, which is so wonderful. 
I'm sorry he's gone but I'm glad he's comfortable now and with his parents, who I'm sure were thrilled to see him!

We have been brothers for seventy-two years.  There were never better brothers, and now one of them is gone.

Neal Wells and I worked with Marsh for many years at Lawler, Felix and Hall which became Arter & Hadden.  He was such a gentleman, kind and considerate of others.  He was also a wonderful lawyer who knew his stuff and many clients benefitted from his practice of law.
He was generous and showed appreciation without a second thought. 
I know you, family and friends will miss Marsh and pray you will find comfort in your years with him.

Marshall Tanner once was my Law mentor at Church headquarters'. His example and dedication left a deep impression on my soul. He left a huge legacy to his family, friends, and coworkers.

Marsh is one of the best persons I've ever met in life. We worked together at São Paulo, Brazil. His kindness and mercy were amazing. May God bless Coleen and family! His life was a tribute to Christ.
