Patricia "Paddy" Murphy Flynn

Patricia “Paddy” Jane (nee Murphy) Flynn, Age 91, passed away on August 2, 2019 by her loving husband’s side and in the company of friends in La Habra, California. Paddy was born on June 8, 1928 in Elk Point, South Dakota to Luvern and Ida (Lamoureax) Murphy. During the Great Depression, the family, moved from South Dakota to Los Angeles, California, where Paddy graduated from Dorsey High School. Paddy met the love of her life, John Laurence Flynn, Jr and they were married on June 28, 1952. Paddy and John moved to La Habra, California and raise their three boys, John, Jeffrey and Daniel. Paddy was a much-loved mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother. While raising her family, she was known for wonderful family parties and her signature sugar cookies at Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter. Paddy modeled the importance of education by returning to college in the mid-1970s at California State University, Fullerton and received a BA in American Studies. Paddy and John loved to travel both with the boys as they were growing up as well as into her and John’s retirement years.

Paddy is survived by her husband of 67 years John, her children; John Flynn III & Maria Flynn, Jeff & Christa Flynn, and Dan & Emily Flynn; and her grandchildren John Flynn IV & Kate Flynn, Heather & Eric VanderWyst, Jennifer & Davy Greer, Daniel & Jessica Flynn, Michael & Adena Flynn, Nick Vogler & Kady Carson and Eric Vogler and great-grand-children Valerie Flynn, Laura Flynn, John Flynn V, and Hudson Greer. She is also survived by her sister Janet Coats. Paddy was known for her love and family loyalty and was fondly known to her many nieces and nephews and God-sons/daughters simply as Auntie Paddy. Many thanks to the wonderful people at LeisureCare and CareChoices Hospice for making her wish to remain at home until her end of days. A memorial service and celebration of Paddy’s life will be held on Saturday, August 24th, 2:00pm at Pacific View Mortuary & Memorial Park in Corona del Mar.
