Otis Franklin Bell, 76, of San Juan Capistrano, California passed away peacefully on Friday, October 5, 2012 at his home with his family by his side. He was born December 18, 1935 in Atlanta, Georgia.
Frank spent his childhood in Vidalia, Georgia. He was a graduate of Vidalia High School Class of 1954 with letters in several sports. After high school, he moved west to California and attended Santa Monica City College, where he participated in the football program, graduating in 1957. After college, Frank and close friends went on an Alaska adventure working The Last Frontier. In 1961, Frank enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. After basic training at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, CA, he served a two-year tour. Upon discharge in 1963, Frank began his professional career in the family business of Burford Automotive Finishes (now known as BAF Industries). He was gifted with a keen chemical engineering mind, strong business acumen and a cooperative nature. As Sales Manager, Frank took the company to new heights. In 1976, he became President and co-owner with his father and uncle. In 1996, Frank purchased the family business and became sole owner. His passion at BAF was product development for customers. This love led to the United States Patent Office granting three Utility Patents in his name as the inventor. BAF is indebted to his vision and commitment for propelling the company to its present leading position in the industry. His work over the last 50 years has assured success for many decades to come.
In his spare time, Frank loved watching sports, especially football, and also became a racehorse owner and model train enthusiast.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Georgene, three sons, Michael and wife Tricia, John and wife Kris, Greg and wife Karen. Three daughters, Nancy and husband Gilbert Camarena, Kim and fiancé John Isch, Sheri and husband David Curtis. He also has thirteen grandchildren, one great grandchild and one brother.
A memorial service will be held Friday, October 12 at 10 a.m. at the Pacific View Memorial Park at 3500 Pacific View Drive, Corona Del Mar, California 92625. A reception will be immediately following the service.
