Noriel Cunanan, 42, of San Francisco, CA, sadly left us on May 29, 2024. He is survived by his parents Noel and Yeye (Normita) Cunanan, his brothers Norman and Norvin Cunanan, and his partner Julia Nickerson.
Noriel was known by friends and family for his contagious smile and unwavering loyalty. A humble soul with an adventurous spirit, his essence and the impact he had on everyone he touched are beyond words. He was a great son, brother, partner, friend, nephew, uncle, cousin, mentor, athlete, and a wonderful giver of love and joy to everyone
Born in the Philippines on October 9, 1981, Noriel moved to Orange County, California, at the age of 6. He attended Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana and dedicated 17 years to Rakuten (formerly Buy.com), where he recently advanced to VP of Security Engineering and Infrastructure Architecture.
An exemplary golfer and gamer with a competitive spirit, Noriel played at the highest caliber, often donning a bright Hawaiian shirt. He was also an avid sports fanatic, passionately supporting the 49ers, Dodgers, and Lakers with unmatched energy and enthusiasm.
Thoughtful, friendly, conscientious, righteous, giving, and caring, Noriel consistently brought joy to everyone around him. We are heartbroken by this loss, as the world has lost one of its brightest lights.
Services will be held on June 18th with a viewing at Pacific View Memorial Park & Mortuary from 12-2 pm followed by a service from 2-3 pm. After the service, a celebration of life will be held at Oak Creek Golf Course in Irvine from 4:00 pm to 10:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family has started Nori's Fight, a foundation set up in his name to advance awareness and research for the disease that took him too soon.
