Melvin Frank Shaw, age 87, of Fullerton, California passed in peace Friday, August 4, 2023.
Mel was born on May 30, 1936 to Betty “Cookie” Chapman and Morey A. Shaw in Los Angeles, CA. He is survived by Susan, his loving wife of 31 years and his brother, Jerry Shaw. Mel was the loving father to children Rick Shaw, Todd Shaw, and Melinda (Shaw) Larzo, a dedicated step-father to Jeff Bigalow and Suzanne (Bigalow) Kisbye, and a devoted father-in-law to Lilli Ann Shaw, Gary Larzo, Jamia Bigalow, and Max Kisbye. Mel was the proud grandfather to Ashley Swerer, Tyler Shaw, Corey Shaw, Brittany Shaw, Brandon Larzo, Lauryn Larzo, Emma Kisbye, Grant Bigalow, and Lila Bigalow, and was also survived by seven adoring great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to being a loving and generous family member, Mel was also the visionary leader and owner of United States Credit Bureau (USCB). After leading the company for nearly 50 years, he went on to sell USCB to its employees in 2003 while remaining in the role of President and CEO until his retirement in 2016. Mel was a founder and Chairman of the Board of American West Bank and on the Board of Directors of The Association of Credit and Collection Professionals who bestowed him with the honor of Member of the Year in 2016.
Mel was a proud American patriot and veteran, serving in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He was also an original season ticket holder of the Anaheim Angels and never met a four-legged friend he didn’t like.
A memorial service to celebrate Melvin Frank Shaw's life will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2023.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Nonprofit Orange County Foundation, reflecting Melvin's commitment to making the world a better place.
