Marie Antoinette Lombardo Sofka was born in Los Angeles, CA on August 29, 1940. She is one of two children of Jennie Palazzolo and Peter M. Lombardo. During her childhood, she enjoyed playing with paper dolls, watching movies with her mom on Saturdays, and playing canasta with her friends. While she grew up in Detroit, her mother always dreamed of returning to California one day. She married her first husband Jack Cook in 1965 and later married John S. Sofka, her dream man and strength, in 1994. She was a loving and devoted mother to her two children Jason and Catrina, as well as grandmother to Riley, Xander, Tyler and Tanner. Marie is also survived by Cynthia Dannaker and Steve Cook,
Cynthia’s children, Becky and Christian, and Becky’s children, Marco and Victoria. She is also survived by John Jr., Mike, Joe, and Jim, and grandchildren Samantha, Christopher, Conner, Ryan, Kevin and Matthew, and great grandchildren Jaxson and Elijah. Though she always dreamed of becoming a dancer, she was never able to take lessons. As for role models, she admired her mother who she remembered as being strong, hard-working and always the life of the party. She adored English trifle, tennis, golf, Italian food, music, art, reading, and has traveled to over 20 different countries, with Hawaii being one of her favorite vacation spots. She will be missed by family, but will also be missed by a multitude of friends and loved ones. She will always be remembered as a loving, vibrant, kind-hearted woman.
