On November 12, 2023, surrounded by the warmth of his devoted family, Long Thanh Phan, a beloved father, treasured grandfather, cherished great-grandfather, and esteemed patriarch, serenely bid farewell to this world, leaving behind a legacy marked by resilience, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment.
Born in 1923 in Long An, Vietnam, Mr. Phan led a remarkable existence, celebrating 80 years of marital bliss, nurturing 11 children, and leaving a lasting impact with 22 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. In the early 1940s, he ardently joined the League for the Independence of Vietnam, fervently opposing French and Japanese rule. His steadfast dedication persisted until the League took a turn towards Communism, prompting his departure from his native province.
Resettling in Saigon alongside his wife and first child, Mr. Phan embarked on a journey that saw him contributing at the French Embassy and later at Grall Hospital, forging a stable life that eventually became a successful business owner. In the tumultuous year of 1975, as South Vietnam succumbed to upheaval, he displayed immense courage by escaping to the United States, bringing with him his entire family and the two children of his brother. Navigating through various states in pursuit of a haven, he finally found a home in the tranquil hold of Irvine, Orange County, where he established a new home with his young children, surrounded by the picturesque beauty of orange groves and strawberry fields.
Even after retiring, Mr. Phan continued to make meaningful contributions by dedicating his time to his beloved grandchildren, imparting the same values of education and discipline that had guided his own children. In his final moments, he fulfilled a humble wish— to pass away at home, surrounded by loved ones. In a serene and graceful exit, his wish was granted by the heavens, and Long Thanh Phan transitioned from this world, in the comfort of his bed, hands held by those he cherished.
A hundred years in the realm of human life pass swiftly like an arrow, like water flowing in a thousand streams. His memory lives on, and he rests in everlasting peace in the embrace of his ancestors in heaven.
