Lawrence “Larry” Harris was born to Mary and “Bucky” Harris in Mattoon, Illinois. His father worked forthe railroad, and his mother worked for Kodak in the photography field.
At the age of 13 the family moved to California and settled in Whittier. After completing high school, Larry enlisted in the US Army air corps. He was stationed at Salton Sea. The war ended before he had the opportunity to be deployed, but he nevertheless was a proud veteran and glad to have served his
country.
Larry attended Pasadena City College where he became a draftsman. Later he took more education in engineering. He met Jean Stanyer and the two married in 1953. Larry’s first career was with Douglas Aircraft corporation as a draftsman, and later as a liaison engineer, and recruiter for McDonnell Douglas.
In retirement Larry had a second career in search rescue and crime scene investigation with the scent transfer unit and trained bloodhounds.
Larry was a volunteer reserve officer for a total of ___ years. His duties included working with fish and game, servicing and maintaining firearms, developing a bloodhound program, and training bloodhound handlers in several counties through the Southern California Bloodhound Coalition. Larry was instrumental in helping to solve many crimes and recover many lost or kidnapped individuals.
Larry is survived by his sons Lee (Esther), and Mark (Jessica), three grandchildren, Allison, Steven, and Kevin (Elvira), and two great grandchildren, Amelia and Ellis.
