The daughter of German immigrants, Jean was born in Columbus Ohio on Nov. 2, 1933, 20 years after her siblings.
After retiring from Colgate Palmolive in Metuchen, New Jersey, she moved to Tustin, CA in 1990. She loved to travel, going all over the world, singing in the church choir, working in her garden, and keeping active volunteering her time to many charitable causes. A member of Tustin Area Women’s Club, and was a Deacon in her church. In 2012 she was awarded Tustin Woman of the Year.
Preceded in death by her father, Alfred Poenisch, her sister, Mildred Conaway, her mother Anna Poenisch, her brother, Raymond Poenisch, her brother, Walter Poenisch, and her sister, Olga Tokar.
Jean is survived by her son, David Simon (wife Jing Wang), three grandchildren, Chris Scharnus, (wife Kristine), David A Simon, (husband Darryl Matekel ), and Shannon Reyes (husband Christian), two nieces, Shirley Stedman, and Patty Smith (husband Joe) and three nephews, Jim Poenisch, John Poenisch, and Elmer Conaway, and more friends than can be counted.
A funeral service will be held at Pacific View Memorial Park & Mortuary, 3500 Pacific View Dr., Corona del Mar, CA 92625 at 2:00 PM on September 23, 2022.
