Faye was born in Ross, California to Hiram and Cleo Johnson and spent her early childhood in San Jose before moving to Lansing, Illinois. She graduated from high school in 1964 and then attended Williams Woods University in Fulton, Missouri. After earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1968, Faye became a 4th grade teacher in St. Louis. She was a very caring and dedicated teacher who held her students to high standards. It was in St. Louis where she met her husband Paul, whom she married in 1972. They then lived in Boston, the suburbs of Chicago, and ultimately settled in Southern California. Paul and Faye had a wonderful 53 years of marriage.
For several years, Faye worked as a librarian at St. Margaret’s Episcopal School in San Juan Capistrano, finding great joy in helping children discover a love for reading. She also volunteered in numerous organizations throughout Orange County. As her children grew, she became an active member with her husband of St. Matthew’s Church of Newport Beach, serving on the Altar Guild, hosting social events at their home, and participating for decades in Tuesday evening and Thursday morning Bible studies.
Faye is survived by her husband Paul, her sons John (and wife Trisha) and Matt (and wife Lynette), and her older brother, Hiram. She was a devoted and loving grandmother to Kylie (daughter of John and Trisha) and Jillian and Bradley (children of Matt and Lynette).
Faye touched many lives with her compassion, empathy, and warmth. She had a big heart and a giving spirit. She was a dear friend to many, someone who was there through good times and bad, and eager to help anyone in need.
A requiem mass will be held on May 10th at 11 AM Pacific at St. Matthew’s Church, followed by a reception in the pavilion.
Faye will be greatly missed. She cherished her time with her family and friends, and we treasure our many happy memories of her life.
