Doris (Dori) Fosler Tunney, 76, of Newport Beach, CA, passed away peacefully at home on June 24, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Born on April 23, 1948, in Philadelphia, PA, Dori was the beloved daughter of Charles Martin Fosler and Pearl Davis Fosler.
Dori is survived by her sons, Noah and Mike Tunney, and their respective spouses, Marlo and Daniela, her grandchildren Kaylee and Cole, and her devoted sister, Janet Betzner. Dori was preceded in death by her late husband, Frank Tunney, who passed away in 2003.
Dori led a remarkable life, filled with dedication and compassion. She graduated from Lincoln High School in Philadelphia and continued her education at Bryn Mawr College, followed by Temple Medical School in Philadelphia, where she earned her MD degree. Dori founded a pediatric practice in Newport Beach and practiced there for 20 years, providing exceptional care to countless children and their families and working closely with Hoag Hospital.
Her true passion was working with children, not just treating them as their physician, but motivating and encouraging them to believe in themselves and make a difference in the world through education, kind actions and hard work.
A supportive and loving mother, Dori was devoted to her sons, and was proud of their achievements. She relished sharing in their lives and the lives of their families, often mentioning how wonderful it was to spend time with them.
After retiring, Dori devoted much of her time to volunteering at Camp Rainbow Gold, a summer camp for children with cancer. It was there she became known as “Dori”, when the camp children gave her that moniker. She started as a counselor, and eventually serving on the Board of Directors, where she helped raise funds to purchase land for their new camp. Her passion for her volunteer work was evident in everything she did, and she touched many lives through her commitment to helping these children. She was a generous benefactor to Camp Rainbow Gold and set up college funds for those wanting to work toward completing a college education.
Dori’s boundless energy and enthusiasm to participate in all the good things the world has to offer made her a sought-after friend. Her sense of fun and adventure were infectious. She was a rare and devoted friend to any fortunate enough to have shared her life and been loved by her. Her spirit will stay with us always.
A celebration of Dori’s life will be held at the Lido Island Clubhouse on Sunday, July 14, 2024, from 2:00-5:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Camp Rainbow Gold, 1120 S Five Mile Road, Boise, ID 83709, www.camprainbowgold.org.
