May 13, 1927- May 31, 2021
WWll Veteran, U.S. Navy Submarine Service
Clifford (Cliff) B. Murr, longtime Anaheim resident passed away peacefully on May 31, 2021. Cliff was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He’ll be missed by all. He and his wife Marie had 5 children. He is survived by his sons Stephen, Wayne, and Ronald, 8 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 56 years, Marie, and their daughters Susan, and Dana.
Cliff was born on a farm in Kent Washington. He was the only child of Clifford and Hilma Murr. Life was simple, but hard during the depression years. Unfortunately, Cliff’s mom Hilma died of tuberculosis in 1939. Cliff’s father Clifford was a career Navy man. Because of this, Cliff went to live with friends of the family in Torrance California. Cliff graduated from Torrance High School early, so he could join the Navy in February 1945. He went from boot camp directly to Submarine school. He reported aboard the USS HAKE (SS-256) as S 2nd class. He also served on the USS SABALO (SS-302), and finally the USS SEA OWL (SS-405). Cliff was a TM3 (SS), and E-4 Petty Officer 3rd Class.
While on leave in Philadelphia, Cliff was at a roller skating rink. It was there that he met the love of his life, Marie. When Cliff was discharged from the Navy, he married Marie in 1949. They moved to Los Angeles, California. After a few years Cliff, and Marie moved to Anaheim where they would both spend the rest of their lives. Cliff took a job with the Pacific Telephone Company. He didn’t know it then, but that job would turn into a career.
Cliff and Marie did many things together, but most of all they loved to travel. First it was family trips with a small trailer, and then longer trips in the family station wagon. When Cliff retired at age 51, he and Marie went international. They traveled everywhere by plane and cruise ship. Cliff and Marie were especially proud of their 30 plus trips to the Hawaiian Islands.
Cliff and Marie were active members of the U.S. Submarine Veterans WWll, Los Angeles chapter. They attended many local events. Cliff also joined USSVl in 1994, and was a life member of the Los Angeles/Pasadena Base.
On Sunday, June 6th Cliff was laid to rest next to Marie in a private service at Pacific View Memorial Park. The Navy had an Honor Guard present at the start of the grave site services. Taps were played, and a folded American flag was presented to the family.
