On Monday December 16, 2019, Adam Tarek Ghoniem; loving son, husband, and father, passed away at the age of 37. Adam was born on June 23, 1982 in Los Angeles, California to Nasr and Virginia Ghoniem. He was a software engineer, receiving his bachelor’s degree in Computer and Electrical Engineering from California State University, Northridge in 2012. On August 2010, he married Oanh Hoang Ghoniem. They have two beautiful girls, Olivia, 6, and Gemma, 4.
In high school and college, Adam was a true athlete and scholar. He excelled in basketball, was the volleyball team captain at Granada Hills High School, and was an avid biker. Adam served his country with honor and distinction as Corporal in the United States Marine Corps. He was deployed in Iraq in 2004/2005, serving in the infantry division in Falluja during the hardest early days of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He then served again in Helmand Province in Afghanistan in 2009 as Field Artillery Cannoneer in N Battery, Fifth Battalion, 14th Marines. He was honorably discharged with 11 medals and commendations; amongst them are the Iraq Campaign Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, and Global War on Terrorism Medal. He also received the Marksman Rifle Badge.
Adam always looked out for and helped the underdog and downtrodden. He had bright eyes, a beautiful smile, and a loving heart. He is survived by his wife, Oanh, his two children Olivia and Gemma, his parents Nasr and Virginia, and his sisters Amira and Jasmine. Adam will always be in our memories, and will be missed and loved.
