GILLINGHAM, Willy-Marie (nee VanderWal), December 19, 1947 – September 9, 2013. After five long years of dealing with ovarian cancer, Willy-Marie Gillingham (VanderWal), wife of Herbert and mother of Charles Jacob, died peacefully at home early on September 9, 2013. She was predeceased by her mother, Willy-Marie VanderWal and father, Reverend Jacob VanderWal. She is survived by her sister Henrietta Handley (David) of Ottawa, her brothers, John (Dianne) of Toronto, Jerry (Charmian) of Montreal and Frits (Sandra) of Stittsville, as well as her step son, Andrew (Melissa) of Ottawa, and step daughters, Rosemary Robles (Luis) of Toronto, and Deborah Kerr (Laird) of Vancouver, and also by six grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Willy had a long and successful career with the Ottawa –Carleton District School Board teaching senior English and dramatic arts. After retirement she enjoyed her time as an administrator at the Sylvan Learning Centre. She was also an elder at St. John’s Presbyterian Church in Cornwall and a past member of Eastern Star, Crescent Chapter 75. Special thanks to Willy’s special friend, Karen MacDonald from Winnipeg, the caring staff of the 8th floor of the Ottawa General Hospital and Bayshore Nursing Services. Together they made it possible for Willy to spend her final days at home surrounded by family and friends. Friends will be received at St. John’s Presbyterian Church on Thursday from 10-11 am in the MacLennan room. Funeral Service Thursday September 12, 2013 at St. John’s Presbyterian Church, at 11am.
