Eulogy

Good morning,
~We are all gathered here today to celebrate the great life of my father Richard. Most of us know he met my mother Peggy in college here in Cornwall, where he was also born and raised by his parents, Henry & Grace. He grew up sneaking chocolate bars from his parents store and shooting each other with army helmets on (The Original Test Dummies). ~He worked till retirement for the City of Cornwall as a public works supervisor. He had some great stories about work, some may remember the “dog poop”or the “soooooo hot Richard” stories, both involving windshields and wipers. He loved anything with a steering wheel or a LCD screen.
~He bought a 1979 Volvo 242 GT, for $750 dollars after some tough negotiations. He had my uncle repaint the car, and it was absolutely bullet proof......but still one of the ugliest cars I ever laid my eyes on. He would do it on purpose to pick me up at the movies with it......I thought my chances at meeting a girl were ruined. Eventually I was old enough to drive, and guess what.....my friends loved that car! I eventually blew it up, spinning the tires with the front bumper against a tree. It was a tough explanation with gravel everywhere, but he sold the car as is for......$750 dollars, the guy drove it on three cylinders for two derby’s and one enduro. My father was right, it was a damn good car!
~ He has influenced us all, Danielle still drives a Volvo today. He gave us kids sound advice and a helping hand when needed. As my father once said, James was mad one day.....”he couldn’t decide if he should go boating, drive his dirt bike, or go fishing”, we grew up in a great neighborhood. Then came the grandchildren, he would rarely miss a sporting event or birthday, he dragged that bowl of macaroni salad for miles every summer. He will always be remembered as a good man, helping with anything he could!!!!

Dear Peggy, Sean, Danielle , James & Families, Richard was a proud husband, Father, Grandfather, and Great Grandfather.   He was a fixer by nature, anything wether personal, financial or mechanical.
At work, he was admired by his peers as someone who could be relied on t get the work done right.   God decided to fill an empty seat in Heaven and called him to sit next to him.
Ethan, Richard’s mini me, rest assured that he will look after you from above.
He will be missed by all.

Richard gave me my first summer job with the city of Cornwall. He hired this young skinny kid, took me under his wing and taught me the ropes. He taught me how to drive stick when I bought a standard. So many fond memories of Richard. Richard was a very positive guy, a inspiration to many. My thoughts and prayers are with your family.
