Beloved husband of 67 years to Hélène (née Chartier) Couture.
Loving father of Claudette (Leonardo Volikas), Jacqueline, Denise, Thérèse (Yves Leger), and Lise (Denis Theriault). Adored by his grandchildren Joseph, Michael, Alexandre, Elizabeth, Corinne, Justin and Veronique. He was the patriarch of his family, loved by his 9 brothers and sisters and many nieces and nephews.
He left his mark across the country from Niagara Falls, Ontario, to Kitimat, BC, and throughout eastern Ontario. He moved to Cornwall in 1954 to work on the construction of the Moses-Saunders Power Dam and was the youngest general foreman. He then started his own construction company JR Couture Limited. He was the first French Canadian catholic to sit on the board of governors at the Cornwall General Hospital. Jos had many joys in his life including hunting, fishing, ski-dooing, boating and Kentucky Fried Chicken. He never lost his sense of humour or his taste for a good hot De Kuyper gin. A loving family man and dear friend and a generous soul, he was admired and respected by all who knew him and all who knew him will remember and miss him.
The family would like to thank the home care providers at Bayshore, the Saint Elizabeth Home Care and the Elderhood Care team for their compassionate care.
A private service will be held at a later date. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to LAHAIE AND SULLIVAN EAST BRANCH, 614 FIRST STREET E, CORNWALL (613-933-2841).
As expressions of sympathy, Memorial Donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family. Messages of condolence may be left at www.lahaiesullivan.ca.
