Our deepest condolences. Many fond memories from our early years.

Lyne and family, so very for your loss of f your beloved husband and father. Early in my career I had the pleasure to work with Dave in Calgary at Canadian Publishers for a few years in the early 80s , we were both graphic artists. I remember Dave as being a very happy, outgoing nice person. Coincidently he was also best friends with my friends Mike and Marie Lord. Although I did not see Dave much since those early years I did get updates from Mike and Marie. I had hoped to visit your music concerts in the summer but was unable to attend , so I am very sorry to have missed reconnecting and miss meeting Dave’s family. From all I have heard he had a very rich family life and a very tight family. Full of good times and good music.  So very sorry for your loss, too soon.

I can’t have words to describe the love and support David and his lovely spouse Lyne did show to my family since we arrived in Canada, the daily check on us, the little notes of encouragements, assistance with household equipments..... I will never forget David’s most appreciated values such caring, charisma, humanity and humbleness; this vivid memory when he came to install my dryer and washer with Lyne... or at the August 2016 concert organised by Lynne.... Such a genious, loving, respectful person, talented musician, great husband and father .... Well such a blessed person in all ways that God put on our pathway. We should keep his valuable legacy and I only pray The Almighty to rest his soul in eternal peace and give strength to his beloved family, Lyne, Chris and Alex, and all of us during these very tough moments of big loss. I dealt with David through my work at the Canada Green Building Council in Ottawa since 2010. He was our point of contact at Trico for all of our printing needs. It was always fun when David came to the office, his vibrant personality always brightened my day. 

I hope that the memories of David's life and legacy will comfort you during this difficult time.


Cuz.....you made us laugh out loud...even when we were kids at Barrys Bay, I remember you buying up all the shark teeth that were in Bentleys cottage/shack, straight from a Great White that swam along the beaches in Florida, at least that is what Bentley told us...

Must have spent at least 2.50.....you thought they were the neatest thing !

 I remember Patricia, Karen, Me, Diane and lots of "cuzins" of all ages listening to the Monkees, just relaxing in the sun behind your cottage #4 and then we would all race into the water to cool down, music still playing...hmmmm do you think your musical genius may have come from......the Monkees...you always reminded me of Mickey Dolenz, my favourite

You guys were clowning around us all the time......making us laugh and yell

Your beautiful wife and great sons and wee Eleanor are a legacy that will carry on your spirit and humour and your great smile......love you Cuz....keep playin that gitar....

I first met Dave in grade 7, he was a genuine friend from that day on. 
Always made you feel comfortable to be around. A comedian, musician, song writer and oh yes, a loving family man. Our thoughts go out to Lyne and the wonderful Shackleton family.

I met David at Shackstock and then had the chance to see him again at Songwriter's group. I found him to be very generous and kind. A very nice man. A very special human being. I feel lucky to have met him and to have seen him perform his heartfelt songs. I offer you my condolences with much sadness.

Somewhere lost in time there's some of the first recordings of me playing guitar, which were made by Dave and our families together. I was about 16 and just learning guitar. He liked what I was doing, shared his own ideas and passion and encouraged me to pursue mine. That meant a lot to me. 

I remember Dave for his energy, passion, humour, love, and kindness. He took in my brother Lewis when he befriended Chris and Alex and treated him like one of his own. I remember his jokes, his laugh, his riffs, his warm country voice, and his gentle strength. I wish I'd told him in the last few years that he had and will always have that place in my heart - as an inspiration, as a friend, and as extended family.

We played a lot of songs together, and one we always loved going back to was Wish You Were Here. When I play that song again, or hear it being played, I'll be thinking of him.

My heart goes out to Lyne, Chris, Alex, and the rest of his family and friends.

David 

est parti rejoindre ma soeur Rita  la mere  de son épouse Lyne  un si bon homme 

un homme formidable qui aimait tant la vie il jouait  de la guitare et aussi un bon 

comédien que j'ai vu quelques fois en scene  j'suis tellement désolée  j'offre 

toute ma sympathie  a Lyne  ses fils Chris. et Alex. et leurs épouses et a sa petite fille

 et la famille Shackleton  .

The world, and especially yours, has lost a lovely, lovely man.  My deepest condolences.

To be in Davids presence was to understand a meaningful life.

My memories of Dave revolve mainly around making sweet music: a shared passion. When our families were younger, we would often gather for fun, food, drink and always music. The beauty of it was that everybody was included, regardless of age, talent or ability. That our progeny still make music together is a testament to those special times.

Dave had the soul of a poet, fuelled by his intense love for Lyne and his absolute delight in having two sons, with whom he could share his passion for music and song. Nothing mattered more to him than his family.

Lyne, Chris and Alex - Lucie and I are deeply saddened by your loss.

The Vintage Stock Theatre family is so saddened to hear that our dear friend David is no longer with us. Such a great loss to all those who knew him, acted with him and laughed with him. As William Shakespeare so succinctly said, "we shall not look upon his like again. And we shall miss him like no other."

Our most sincere and deepest condolences to Lyne, Christopher, Alexander and the Shackleton family.

I'm so sorry to hear. My love goes out to the whole family, and I don't know how I can put into words how hard this is. 

The man played a mean guitar, and he made everyone feel comfortable and welcome wherever he was.  He had an incredible smile and could back it up with awesome conversation. He showed me that you can rock out, be cool, and still be genuine. I'll remember him as an artist and an inspiration. 

This is way too soon.  I'm sorry.


It was with great sadness that I learned of David's passing on Sunday.  Dave will always be the funny, music loving, humble man with whom I shared the stage and these are the memories which I shall always cherish.  My deepest sympathies go out to Lynn and the family for your loss - one that can never be truly measured.

Dear Lyne
So shocked and saddened to hear the death of David. I loved hearing the stories of your shared passion for Theatre and seeing you both up on the stage. I know a part of you is gone.
