MATTHEWS, Charles – At the Ottawa Civic Hospital on Thursday, June 5, 2014. Charlie Matthews of Cornwall; at the age of 81. Loving husband of Jackie Dalzell. Dear father of Brian Matthews (Susan) and Susan Ida (Noel). Dearest grandfather of 3 grandchildren Tony (Lori), Heather and Trevor as well as his 3 great grandchildren Carter, Cameron and one to come. Dear brother of Gilbert, Ron, Carl and Lillian. Predeceased by his parents Charlie Matthews and Gladys Ida and one grandson Stephen Charles Murphy. Charlie enlisted with the Canadian Army in 1950 and retired in 1975 as a Corporal. Through the years, he acquired these medals: Canadian Forces Decoration and Clasp, United Nations (Cyprus), NATO, Canadian Confederation, Peace Keeping. He was President of the Long Sault Legion for 4 years. He was a member of the Chapter 076 Cornwall as well as the Royal Canadian Dragoons and the RCEME. He also leaves behind and will be missed by his Canadian Motorcycle Cruiser family. Funeral arrangements under the care and direction of Lahaie & Sullivan Cornwall Funeral Homes, West Branch, 20 Seventh Street West (613.932.8482). A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. As expressions of sympathy, Memorial Donations to the Children’s Wish Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
